Malaysia - Multi-billion Ringgit Mixed Project To Be Developed At Sungai Tebrau
November 16, 2012
A mixed-use high-end commercial and residential development costing billions of ringgit has been planned for Sungai Tebrau in Johor Bahru.
Sungai Tebrau in Johor Bahru has been identified as the site of a planned multi-billion ringgit waterfront development that will comprise high-end commercial and residential units. The project, to be located near the Permas Jaya bridge, will also include a new international ferry terminal.
The waterfront development is being overseen by Tebrau Teguh Bhd, which said that the project is in its planning stage right now. The company also plans to offer water taxi services connecting Johor Bahru and Singapore, as well as ferry services to nearby Indonesian islands.
According to executive vice-chairman Tan Sri Lim Kang Hoo, Tebrau Teguh will commence land reclamation work covering 40.46 ha in 2013.
The reclamation work is expected to take about a year to complete, with development work on the massive project to begin immediately thereafter. “The project, with a gross development value of between RM 4 billion and RM 5 billion, will keep us busy for 10 to 15 years,’’ said Lim on Monday.
In a separate comment on its refinery and petrochemical integrated project (Rapid) in Pengerang, Kota Tinggi, Lim said that his company has completed site clearance and earthworks and is in the midst of laying the infrastructure for the relocation of affected villagers.
Lim added that Tebrau Teguh would begin construction works for 1,036 houses on plot A of the new resettlement on 154.18 ha either in December or January 2013. The company has been given a year to finish the job, which is valued at RM 530 million.
“We are confident of completing the job on time based on our previous track records where all projects undertaken by us are done ahead of schedule,’’ he said.
