November 5, 2012
Destination Resorts and Hotels Sdn Bhd (DRH) has completed about 10% of the first phase of its RM 5 billion tourism and entertainment project on Desaru, Johor.
Johor's popular Desaru Beach will see the rise of a new tourism and entertainment development with an estimated gross development value (GDV) of RM 5 billion.
DRH has commenced Phase One development works for its Desaru Coast project, which will be completed in 2015. The firm said that the project occupies a beachfront site spanning 728.43 ha and will be undertaken by developer Desaru Development Holdings One Sdn Bhd (DH1).
According to Muhd Firdaus Azharuddin, Chief Executive of DH1, Phase One will feature a number of properties dedicated to tourism and hospitality purposes. They include the Plantation Hotel, Sheraton Resort, Datai Langkawi and the Riverwalk, as well as a hospitality, tourism and culinary school.
Also included are two theme parks – Ocean Splash and Ocean Quest – along with two golf courses and a convention centre.
“The resort will set new standards in the industry with the objective to boost tourist arrivals, extend the length of their stay and eventually increase tourist receipts,” said Mohd Nadziruddin Mohd Basri, Managing Director of DRH.
Mohd Nadziruddin revealed that Desaru Coast Phase One will be financed by an RM 600 million loan obtained from Malayan Banking Bhd in combination with seed capital to be injected by Khazanah.
“On each level of the project, there are joint-venture companies and subsidiaries. There will be bank borrowings as well,” he added.
