Malaysia - UDA Wants To Help In Johor Bahru Redevelopment

September 13, 2012

With its long-standing history of real estate development in Johor Bahru, UDA Holdings Bhd has offered its expertise towards the redevelopment of Johor Bahru city.

UDA Holdings Bhd believes that its wide experience can be a boon in the urban redevelopment of Johor Bahru, based on its long-standing history with the city. The company has offered its expertise to city planners, according to chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

"I have offered UDA's support and help but haven't received any indication. We have good knowledge with the business climate (in Johor Baru), housing market and I think that we can contribute to the redevelopment plan of the city," he said.
Since 1975, UDA has been closely involved in redeveloping the city through the Bandar Baru UDA project.

"I am interested to get UDA involved in the plan, but we have to be invited (to be involved in Johor Baru's redevelopment plan)," added Nur Jazlan, who is also Member of Parliament for Pulai.

Managing director Ahmed Abu Bakar noted that Johor Bahru represents one of the most important markets for the company.

He said the company met Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) recently to discuss the relocation of residents at Kampung Skudai Kiri.

As announced last year by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, RM 1.8 billion had been allocated for Johor Baru's redevelopment by the Federal Government under the 10th Malaysia Plan.

Meanwhile, UDA said that its Kampung Tanjung Tokong project is progressing well. The company is preparing to submit the land development plan to the state government, said Nur Jazlan, adding that almost all the squatters in the village had signed a settlement agreement.

UDA will develop a mixed-use commercial complex on the land plot which spans 8.8 ha. The project will consist of a condominium block as well as a modern international-standard shopping centre. The gross development value of the project is estimated at RM 1.8 billion.

In addition, UDA will also spend RM 165 million to build apartment blocks for the village's 1,200 residents.
