IWH, JCorp To Jointly Build 8,300 Affordable Houses Under PR1MA
Johor Corporation (JCorp) and Iskandar Waterfront Holdings Sdn Bhd (IWH) will jointly develop 8,300 units of affordable houses under the 1Malaysia Housing Programme (PR1MA). The 8,300 new houses, the construction of which will begin late this year and completed by late 2015, will be made available to eligible applicants in nine locations within the Johor Bahru district.
IWH Managing Director Tan Sri Lim Kang Hoo said there would be a good choice of apartments, townhouses or detached single-storey houses to match individual budgets and family requirements.
“The location of the projects in sub-urban areas was carefully selected for easy accessibility to the city here and to provide a ready pool of labour to neighbouring industries and the services sector, ” he said in a statement.
The houses would be built in prime locations with good road connectivity and public amenities, he added. A comprehensive range of services like community halls, playgrounds, kindergartens, mosques and clinics would also be provided. IWH is undertaking the development of these PR1MA houses as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.
“As a responsible company, we will continue to make available land and resources to provide affordable houses for Malaysians of all races,” he said.
IWH, which is the master developer of prime waterfront land here, is the landowner and developer of three of the projects in Danga Bay, Plentong and Masai offering a total of 5,000 units.
An additional six projects with 3,300 houses will also be built by IWH under a joint-venture with JCorp in Tebrau, Ulu Tiram, Kempas, Larkin and Pasir Gudang.
PR1MA will manage the balloting of all the 8,300 units, priced about 20 per cent below prevailing market prices, when they are ready.
The 8,300 additional affordable houses under PR1MA is part of 25,000 similar houses planned to be built by several developers within Iskandar Malaysia as announced by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in Kulaijaya yesterday.
